There are three main types of fertility treatments: medications, surgeries, and techniques to help conception, like intrauterine insemination (IUI) and in vitro fertilization (IVF). Common fertility medications include clomifene, which helps women release an egg each month if they have trouble ovulating, and tamoxifen, which is used if there are ovulation issues. Metformin is helpful for women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Gonadotrophins help women ovulate and can also boost fertility in men. Other medicines like gonadotrophin-releasing hormone and dopamine agonists are also used to encourage ovulation in women.
